Turn-taking Strategies In Remote Liaison Interpreting

With China’s increasing openness to the outside world,China’s wine consumption experiences a quick expansion,attracting numerous European wine producers to seek business opportunities in China.Therefore,business meetings on wine emerged.Due to the outbreak of COVID-19,the world started the transition towards to work from home this year,leading to the rise of online business meetings where interpreting quality plays an important role.However,interpreters tend to burden more stress in the mode of remote interpreting.Remote liaison interpreting requires not only good equipment and a smooth network but also high-level interpreting quality.This report selects China Online Wine Trade Sourcing Event held by World’s Leading Wines in 2020 as the case for analysis,involving C-E and E-C liaison interpreting.The report is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background of the interpreting practice.The second part refers to the process description.The third part contains the introduction to remote interpreting,turn-taking strategies and its application.The fourth part is the case analysis,exploring how to use turn-taking strategies to improve the quality of remote liaison interpreting.The fifth part shows findings,limitations and implications.The report analyzes the features of turn-taking in remote liaison interpreting,concluding the strategies interpreters can adopt,such as taking turns,creating turns,interrupting turns,and postponing turns.It is hoped that this report can help student interpreters better adapt to remote liaison interpreting and improve the rendition quality.
