| With the rise of China’s status in the world,cultural translation has become an important way for China to spread Chinese culture,establish its international image,develop its international strategy and enhance its cultural self-confidence.At the same time,it is also the main way to show the "soft power" of our country,therefore,Chinese culture going global has become a national strategy.The Central Plains culture,with a long history,is extensive and profound in China,so it is a primary part of Chinese culture.Among them,the canal culture carries on the Central Plains culture,tells the Central Plains stories and carries forward the Central Plain spirit.Therefore,the key to the success of Chinese culture "going global" lies in the "going global" of Central Plains culture.Based on the translation practice of The Grand Canal and the functional equivalence theory of Eugene,the author of this report conducts a study on the culture-loaded terms such as the ancient rivers,the ancient ruins,the ancient temple fairs,the emperor’s Year number and the ancient poetry in the English translation of The Grand Canal,and applies the corresponding methods and techniques to the translation practice.This report is divided into five parts: Chapter One is a brief introduction and analysis of the translated materials and an overview of the purpose and significance of Translation.Chapter two mainly describes the translation process,including preparation before preparation,translation process and post-translation revision.Chapter three introduces Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory and the definition and classification of culture-loaded terms,and expounds the translation principles of functional equivalence theory for culture-loaded terms.Chapter Four adopts the classification and characteristics of culture-loaded terms,combined with the translation practice of The Grand Canal,to explore the translation methods and techniques of culture-loaded terms.In Chapter Five,the author sums up the author’s experience in the translation of The Grand Canal,and points out the shortcomings in the translation of The Grand Canal,some suggestions and suggestions on the translation of culture-loaded terms in the future are put forward.The study shows that Nida’s functional equivalence theory is based on the translation of Bible,which itself belongs to the religious culture.Therefore,the theory is more applicable to the cultural translation,especially the translation of the culture-loaded terms.The functional equivalence of source text and target text can be realized to some extent and the quality of text translation can be greatly improved by adopting the corresponding translation methods and techniques. |
