Abstract/Summary:
With the development of the Internet and the broader application of technical education,online courses at home and abroad also bring more convenience and more knowledge and information to increasing learners and provide high efficiency for education management.In the past year or so,school teaching in the domestic and foreign situation was changing from classroom to online,which improves the autonomy and selectivity of learning,and greatly develops online teaching.However,online teaching needs to be improved because most teachers are not familiar with the online teaching mode and have not mastered enough online teaching skills in the very beginning.To adapt to a widely used teaching mode,college teachers need more online teaching guidance.With the introduction of technical education literature,relevant experience about translating materials of online teaching is becoming urgently necessary.Therefore,by choosing Small Teaching Online: Applying Learning Science in Online Classes(Flower Darby,2019)as materials,taking functional discourse translation as theoretical guidance,the translator improves the translation from words and phrases,sentences,texts,and pragmatics,and finds and summarizes the strategies of translating popular science texts in technical education.At the lexical level,the translator should analyze some expressions difficult to deal with according to the context—not only the current context but also the cultural context—and identify conceptual meaning before translating.When new concepts are encountered,simple and forceful words should be used in the translation,which can summarize the concept’s main meaning and express it smoothly.In addition,some parts of speech,such as pronouns,are also one of the translation difficulties that need to be paid attention to in popular science texts.Especially in the English source language,they are clearly expressed without any redundancy,and can increase the translation’s appropriate context relevance and fluency.As to the syntactic level,the translator analyzes imperative sentences,the most common sentence patterns in the text,and points out that thematic progression mode should be kept an eye on when translating sentences.The choice of progression mode should be determined according to readers’ purpose of receiving information.Refer to the discourse level,the translator mainly focuses on two ways of cohesion: reference and conjunction to realize interpersonal and textual meanings of the text.As for pragmatics,the translator mainly focuses on maintaining the stylistic consistency between the translated text and the original text,so that the translated text can have the same utility as the original text to the greatest extent.In accordance with the problems and solutions encountered in the translation practice of technical education texts Small Teaching Online: Applying Learning Science in Online Classes,the report illustrates how functional discourse translation theory guides translation practice,and reflects how to solve translation difficulties and corresponding strategies through case analysis.The purpose is to provide a reference for the majority of online education technology users,for online teaching in primary,secondary and high schools,and also for translation of similar popular science texts,teacher’s education training and the popularization of technology education in the future.
