A Brief Analysis Of Contemporary Chinese Feminist Art’s Deconstruction Of “Gaze” From The Perspective Of Gender

Feminism is one of the important art theories in contemporary art creation,and there are many different discussions on feminist artworks,but the main point is the discussion on women’s self-identity in the current era and the gender difference between men and women.The main focus of the criticism is the deconstruction of "gaze" theory.In feminist theory,the subject of the gaze is often male,so the focus here is on the deconstruction of the "male gaze.The " male gaze " is " the act of objectifying women with the male gaze in order to obtain sexual pleasure ".This paper compares the origin and formation of the " male gaze," analyzes the socialization of gender inequality in the context of Western feminist theory,and explains the social phenomenon of the " male gaze " to explain how women are being " gazed at " through the social phenomenon of the " male gaze.Through the social phenomenon of the "male gaze",we will explain the origin of the "othering" of women in the process of the "gaze",bring out the current situation of women’s existence,and reflect the need to resist the "male gaze",thus leading to the core thesis of this thesis--How Chinese feminist artists themselves have attempted to resist the "male gaze" and gradually construct their own discourse,and how deconstructing the "male gaze" has had a positive effect on the development of this female art.The paper is logically divided into three chapters.The first part of the first chapter of the essay defines the "male gaze" and its origin,and the second part of the first chapter discusses the social examples of the "male gaze" and why it is necessary to deconstruct the resistance to the "male gaze".The first is the status and survival of women in China,the second is the creative dilemma of female creators,the third is the stigmatization of feminism,and the fourth is the irreversible trend of gender pluralism,and the need to resist male gaze is proposed from these four factors.The second chapter of the article analyzes several representative works of contemporary Chinese feminist artists such as Xiao Lu,Chen Antelope,He Chengyao,and Zhou Wenjing to understand the background and motives of their creations,analyze how the "male gaze" is deconstructed in their works,how this artistic expression is formed,and construct their own discourse from them.The second section of chapter 2 explains the ideas and methodology of how to create artworks that deconstruct the "male gaze" from the perspective of oneself.The third section of the second chapter explains the value and relevance of feminist artists’ deconstruction and resistance to the "male gaze.The third section introduces the influence of the critical thinking on the deconstruction of the "male gaze" in feminism on her own creative practice.
