| The New English Curriculum Standards(2017)emphasizes improving students’ ability to use language,which reflects the importance of taking English as a tool to convey meaning.Writing is one of the most important ways to use language.Students are passively learning in traditional English writing class,and their confidence and ability on writing are suppressed.However,in scaffolding teaching,students are the center of learning process and they are guided to write based on their zone of proximal development.In this paper,the effectiveness of applying scaffolding teaching to English writing will be explored.51 students in a senior high school in Wanzhou took part in this research.Qualitative and quantitative research instruments were used to test the applicability of scaffolding teaching model.This study focuses on two questions: 1.How is scaffolding teaching being applied in English writing teaching in high school? 2.What is the impact of scaffolding writing teaching on high school students’ writing competence?Two rounds of action research were conducted in this study.First round of action research focused on students’ mastery of basic knowledge.Teacher designed scaffolding writing class in following steps: entering the situation,setting up scaffolds,group collaboration,exploring independently,and evaluating the results.The second round of action research adopted diverse teaching materials to help students identify the writing types and meet the writing tasks required by the corresponding types.Combining the analysis of questionnaire,text and interview,the author made the following conclusions.Firstly,scaffolding writing teaching has a positive effect on writing learning.Secondly,scaffolding teaching improves writing achievements.Thirdly,scaffolding teaching promotes students’ writing efficacy.After the analysis of the action research,the author made suggestions for scaffolding writing teaching.Firstly,scaffolding writing teaching should be based on good understanding of students’ learning situations.Secondly,meaningful activities should be attached great importance in writing teaching.Finally,teachers should give adequate assessment and feedback during writing teaching.To sum up,scaffolding teaching is worth applying in English writing teaching widely. |
