| Production-Oriented Approach(POA)is a theory proposed by Wen Qiufang in2015 that aims at teaching foreign languages in China.It is an innovative teaching theory aimed at solving the problem of "separation of learning and use" in foreign language teaching in China.It puts forward a new way of thinking and direction for foreign language teaching in China.Since POA research is on the rise in recent years,to study and reflect on the status quo and problems of this approach is not only of theoretical value but also of practical significance for the practice of improving the quality of Middle school English teaching.This study adopts bibliometrics and information visualization techniques,and Cite Space 5.8 is used to carry on visual analysis of academic papers,journals,Master’s and Doctoral theses on POA in CNKI from 2016 to 2021.Based on manual search of keyword co-occurrences and clusters,attempts are made in this paper to analyze corresponding academic papers and theses on the application of POA in middle school English teaching and to answer three questions: First,what are the research topics and foci of POA on English teaching in middle schools in China in the past five years? Second,what is the core value of the application of POA on English teaching in middle schools in China? Third,what are the main problems of on English teaching practice in middle schools in China?The results of keyword co-occurrence analysis reveal that researches fall into three categories: theoretical research,practice research and method research.The results of keyword cluster show that domestic research topics in POA focus on 10 clusters,such as teaching mode,teaching reform,college English,senior high school English,vocational English,input drive,etc.By conducting the literature review and the content analysis,the study finds that the practice of POA in middle school English teaching focuses on the teaching of writing,reading,listening and speaking as well as vocabulary.Firstly,the paper analyzes the examples of teaching design of continuation task writing class,reading class for cultivating reading cognitive ability,listening and speaking class for facilitating oral expression through listening input and English vocabulary learning strategies class in middle schools.Then the influence of POA on middle school English teaching is further discussed.It includes the influence of POA on English writing ability,language,content,discourse and emotional factors;for reading class,influences on reading interest,cognitive competence and strategy is discussed;for listening and speaking class,the impact on the ability of thinking and oral expression is analyzed;and the teaching mode,learning strategy and emotional experience are discussed for vocabulary class based on POA.Through the research of POA in middle school English teaching practice,problems are revealed as follow: there are insufficient practice fields,like few practices for individual differences and not specific to each teaching module.Based on the problems found in the research,the paper puts forward some suggestions from the perspective of practice and research accordingly.At the research level,theoretical research and curriculum construction should be conducted.In practice,training on teachers’ professional skills should be intensified,,and POA should be integrated with the new learning platform and applied in all teaching stages.It is hoped that these findings and suggestions can contribute to further research of POA in theory and in practice as well. |
