| With a long history of thousands of years,ancient Chinese poetry is still regarded as a treasure nowadays.In ancient times,the poets and writers used poems to socialise and make friends,while modern artists use them to compose songs.Tang poetry,Song Ci and Yuan Qu have taken a lead for hundreds of years.They have been active in various genres in different eras,with poetry and song as a combination of poetry and music.The essence of the ancient poetry and artistic song is that the piece is composed in the framework of Chinese poetry and lyrics.With Western musical techniques as the body and soul of the piece,it is considered a perfect blend of the two.Meanwhile,the unique oriental connotation is the reason why it is always active on the stage.This article uses two pieces,Yue Diao Xiao Tao Hong-Lotus Picking Girl" and "Jiangchengzi-Yimao’s dream on the night of 20 th January" as case studies to investigate the issues of emotional expression and the performing technique of ancient Chinesepoems and songs.It is elaborated in three aspects.Firstly,it introduces the background and development of Chinese poetry and artistic songs.Secondly,it introduces the authors of the two pieces and analyses the different literary and musical aspects of them,as well as how music and literature can be integrated.Thirdly,it investigates how the singing techniques and emotional expressions of the singers are used in practice.This paper mainly discusses the literary aspects of the two pieces,both of which are based on the memories of the lover.However,the poetic context and the written composition vary significantly.While one is straightforward and simple,the other is deep and passionate.There are differences in the moods of the singers,as well as in their singing techniques and intonation.By exploring the literary contexts and styles of the two pieces,this paper mainly discusses how the different emotions of separation should be expressed,thereby concluding how the emotions of ancient Chinese poetry and artistic songs should be expressed and sung to provide reference for other singers. |
