In Chapter 13 of An Introduction to the Central Plains Culture,the author of the original text introduces the source of ancient education,the development of academies in the Central Plains,and the contribution and influence of the academy culture.Therefore,under the guidance of George Steiner’s Hermeneutic Fourfold Translation Motion Theory,this translation report attempts to summarize the translation methods and strategies employed in the cultural and historical development in the academies of the Central Plains.By virtue of George Steiner’s Hermeneutic Fourfold Translation Motion Theory,the translation practice report analyzes how to faithfully convert the source text into target text in the process of translation by combing the specific translation examples in Chapter13.First,based on the trust of the original text,the translator invades the writings in classical Chinese,four-character words and syntax of the original text to accurately comprehend original meaning and culture and make the translation more suitable for the purpose of the source text through intralingual and interlingual translation,mainly from the four aspects of reconstruction,replacement,deletion and supplement.Then literal translation and free translation are adopted to understand the meaning and syntax structure of the original text so as to maintain the original favor of source culture and enrich target culture.However,after invading and absorbing,culture and information of the original text are inevitably lost,so the translator adopts appropriate translation methods to maintain the balance between target text and source text.The research finds out that Steiner’s Hermeneutic Fourfold Translation Motion Theory is feasible to the translation of traditional academy education in the Central Plains,such as writings in classical Chinese,four-character words and syntax structure.It is hoped that this translation practice report can provide useful reference for the later translation of academy education in the Central Plains. |
