As one of the new forces of the realist literary camp in the 1930 s and 1940 s,Wu Zuxiang is a unique presence in the modern Chinese literary scene.Wu ’s novels have always taken the countryside as the center of their writing, and have a strong concern for the style of the local society, the state of the villagers’ lives, and the changes experienced in the countryside. In his novels,he not only shows the real living environment and state of mind of different villagers, but also highlights the spiritual loftiness of the villagers born after suffering, and also depicts the growth process of the villagers resonating with the times under the historical changes, bringing people a heavy sense of reading beauty. The paper takes aesthetics, narrative science and hermeneutics related theories as the starting point, and has three main parts:The first part explores the genre of aesthetic qualities of Wu’s novels. In terms of authentic aesthetic characteristics, the author presents and displays the mirror image of the rural areas of southern Anhui, and pays attention to the in-depth excavation of the spiritual world of the villagers, showing the survival resilience of the villagers. In terms of tragic aesthetic qualities, the author fully shows the distortion of human nature and the alienation of personality under the pressure of money, and also writes about the many sad and meaningless redemption acts faced by people under feudal repression, and also portrays the bravery and sublimity embodied in the process of characters fighting against the fate of suffering. In his novels,Wu’s writing about the depth and breadth of history, the difficult awakening of the peasant family and the national consciousness, and the change of tone of the heroic image constitute his epic aesthetic qualities. The second part explores the artistic generation of the aesthetic qualities of Wu’s novels.Wu’s narrative language of elegance and vernacular colloquialisms,as well as an objective and implicit narrative style, has formed an artistic arrangement that highlights the authenticity of the novel. The ironic art and flexible symbolic techniques that accompany tragedy and joy portray the tragic aesthetic qualities of Wu’s novels. In Wu’s artistic use of highlighting epic aesthetic qualities,he chooses to show the epic style from the big picture, and also pays attention to the small place to show the epic character, while the vertical narrative and cross-sectional display constitute a prominent artistic feature. The third part explores the value of the aesthetic qualities of Wu’s novels. The aesthetic characteristics of Wu’s novels promote the fit of the content and form of the novel text,so that its creative intention has been fully displayed and deeply perceived, forming a narrative harmony.Wu’s adherence to the realist creative position and the conscious manifestation of the essence of literature in his aesthetic characteristics constitute his adherence to literature. The aesthetic qualities in Wu’s novels also show the absurd beauty of the true beauty of the countryside and the homeland, the absurd beauty of the fusion of sorrow and joy,and the sublime beauty of deeply perceiving history,so that Wu ’s novels emit a strong aesthetic glow, and at the same time,it is also beneficial to have a profound display of the problems related to the transformation of national nature and its tragedy. In the concluding part, the main contents of the thesis are summarized, the literary significance of the aesthetic characteristics of Wu’s novels is affirmed, the important role of his creation in modern and contemporary literature is emphasized, and the flaws in the aesthetic characteristics of Wu’s novels are briefly commented.
