The century of 21st is characterized by multiculturalism and nationalism. Multiculturalism has become a major trend of international music education. In order to find a standpoint in the world and contribute something to the human society in our own way, it is imperative that college students should not only learn new things from a global scale and accept values, norms commonly observed by modern civilization, but also glorify the traditional essence in our national cultural heritage.Chinese drama is a kind of special art with Chinese flavor and it is the essence of traditional art with Chinese drama as its core. The excellent ones of Chinese drama, as a part of traditional culture, embody the traditional virtues valued by people in Chinese tradition. Furthermore, Chinese drama is a way of traditional culture communication and it is the carrier of traditional culture. It is on the stage that the Chinese traditional culture and philosophy convey their essences to the everyday life of common people and further to their cultural psychology.School education is a basic way and place in which culture is communicated and inherited. It is both responsibility and an important function of music education to inherit and develop culture of Chinese drama. Meanwhile, certain cultural modality molds certain personal qualities and influences people's thinking-style, values and behaviors of those who receive the education. In this thesis, from a perspective of the relationship between Chinese drama and quality-molding, the author explores the functions of Chinese drama in college music education. Chapter one begins with a definition of Chinese drama and quality-molding and mainly introduces the significant co-relationship between Chinese drama and quality-molding; Chapter two goes further into a discussion of functions of Chinese drama in college music education, and then points out that popularization of Chinese drama in college music education helps communicate Chinese traditional culture in one hand, and in the other hand, it helps influence quality-molding of college students. Chapter three focuses on the feasibility of popularization of Chinese drama and put forward several practical measures for the popularization including employment of Chinese drama in college curriculum construction, qualities of music teachers for Chinese drama, and cultural construction of Chinese drama on campus etc.
