This report is based on the author’s experience of interpreting in November 2021.The translated content is excerpted from the parenting classes provided by Cambly,an overseas online education platform.The series of courses were taught online and in real-time by educators and managers of preschool education institutions from Australia and New Zealand who have been engaged in preschool education for more than 20 years,providing one-to-one parenting and English acquisition guidance for subscribed parents.The author was entrusted by the client to carry out on-site consecutive interpreting for the online classes he subscribes to.The teaching style of the lecturers was natural and friendly,and the source language therefore presented the characteristics of colloquialism and impromptu speech,which also brought corresponding challenges to the author.The reformulation strategy is one of the interpreting strategies recognized by scholars from home and abroad.It refers to the structural adjustment of the source language in order to convey the speaker’s meaning to the greatest extent.Taking the practice of consecutive interpreting as the research object,this report describes the whole process of the interpretation task in detail,and based on reformulation strategy,analyzes the problems encountered in the consecutive interpreting task: redundancy,professional terminology and incomplete sentence.Based on the previous reformulation strategies and skills,this paper puts forward the corresponding solutions more suitable for similar scenes: information compression,terminology interpretation,incomplete sentence refilling.Through this interpreting practice and research,the author further explores the effective application of reformulation strategy in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting,in order to provide reference for wide-ranging interpreting learners.
