Prokofyev,a famous pianist and composer of the former Soviet Union, whose music style is not only rooted in tradition, but also bold and innovative. The piano suite "Romeo and Juliet" with a total of ten pieces is adapted by a ballet which has the same name as Prokofyev, taking the acquaintance, love and parting of Romeo and Juliet as the main line of music development. It also involves a good feeling of storytelling and painting, characterized by the feature which almost all the composers have, and it also shows Prokofyev’s unique music style incisively and vividly, which is one of the most sparking stars on the road of music development. The author will take this suite as the research object of the thesis and analyze the work from three chapters. The first chapter concisely describes Prokofyev’s absorbing background environment and rough growing progress of the piano suite Romeo and Juliet. The second chapter researches its musical trait from five fields in depth: classical, innovative, lyrical, harmonious and motility. The third chapter combines its own performance situation, analyses three aspects involving the symphonic timbre, percussive key touch and music image shaping in detail, and summarizes the technical difficulties and performance feelings which the author encountered in practice. It will lay the foundation for deeper understanding of Prokofyev and the music work of the 20 th century through the research and performance.I also hope that this article can provide more or less help for piano enthusiasts who learn and play the work.
