The new curriculum reform emphasizes on the development of students as the center, helping students learn to learn while acquiring basic knowledge and skills, and highlighting students’ subjectivity in learning.English learning strategies play a very important role in English learning. The effective use of learning strategies can help students improve their English learning efficiency and cultivate their independent learning ability.English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition)(hereinafter referred to as "Curriculum Standards")clearly states that teachers should help students form, adjust and effectively use their English own learning strategies to lay a foundation for lifelong learning. The curriculum standard divides learning strategies into cognitive strategies, regulatory strategies, communicative strategies and resource strategies, and lists the grading standards of second-level and fifth-level learning strategies.Although the curriculum standards specify the specific standards of the second-level goals of English learning strategies,it is not clear how students apply English learning strategies.Based on the constructivism learning theory and Oxford language learning strategy theory, this study compiled a questionnaire based on the second-level standard of learning strategies in the curriculum standard.By analyzing the data of the questionnaire, this paper summarizes the problems of senior students in X primary school in using English learning strategies.Based on the questions,we conducted telephone interviews with the teachers and some students, analyzed the relevant factors affecting students’ use of English learning strategies, and put forward corresponding suggestions for improvement.Based on the questionnaire survey data of students and the interview results of teachers and students, the following conclusions are drawn: the frequency of English learning strategies used by grade 6 students in X Primary School in Hohhot is low,and their awareness of using learning strategies in English learning is insufficient. The utilization level of cognitive strategies was significantly lower than that of regulatory strategies, communicative strategies and resource strategies.Students can finish their homework on time, concentrate on listening to the teacher, review and summarize after class on their own initiative, but there are some problems in the initiative to ask questions, cooperative learning and extracurricular reading.Based on these questions, senior students of X primary school and their teachers were interviewed.Fear of teachers, poor self-discipline,poor learning habits and other factors affected students’ use of English learning strategies. In view of the above reasons, the research puts forward the following suggestions: teachers should strengthen the guidance and attention to students’ English learning strategies in teaching, and urge students to use learning strategies to learn English;Stimulate students’ initiative and enthusiasm in English learning;Teachers and parents work together to cultivate students to form good English learning habits and home-school cooperation to create an environment conducive to students’ English learning to promote the use of students’ English learning strategies. |
