Marriage and family movies and television series have a wide audience in China,and the creation of related themes has endured in the entire Chinese film history.With the narration of various stories of ups and downs in the film,a group of women who have been oppressed and discriminated against since ancient times——wives,have become a very important but slightly bleak fictional character on the screen.By researching the images of wives in the narrative of marriage crisis,we can discover the characteristics and shaping characteristics of wives in Chinese film,so as to make more detailed supplements to the feminist research of Chinese film,and hope to provide some ideas for future movies about love and marriage.In order to comprehensively sort out and analyze the wife images,this article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter reviews the representative films in the early Chinese film history to outline the development trajectory of the wife images on the screens in different eras,and then briefly summarizes the manifestations of the marriage crisis and the wife images in the films of the new century.The second chapter will use the theory of feminism to classify and interpret the wife images on the screens since the new century,and try to clarify the screen positioning of the wife images in the past two decades and the cultural connotation behind it.The third chapter analyzes how the stereotyped wife images in these films are shaped from the perspective of male perspective and image modeling.Finally,with female director Peng Xiaolian’s film "Shanghai Women" as a comparison,constructive strategies are put forward on how to reshape the images of screen wives that can break through the patriarchy.In the new century,the wife images in movies have not gained more space for self-expression with the improvement of women’s status in reality and the awakening of women’s consciousness.They always play a stereotyped role in the narrative of marriage crisis constructed by men.Only by presenting the real female marital predicament and letting people hear the real voice of women can the film play an important role in building a harmonious society with equality of men and women who have happy marriages.
