The image of merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai are thoughtful and profound.As the unique part in the female,Merchants' wife have to withstand more stress which from the daily life,that made them very lonely at times and some of they are have an affair with other men.However,they are also have more opportunities to participate in business activities.The life status of merchants' wife is the raw portrayal of realistic life.They sensitive heart are accusing the cruelty of feudal ethics and howling from inside.Exploring the image of a merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai can expand the research on the late Ming dynasty's social ideological culture and historical culture.The thesis can be divided into three parts:The first chapter explores the source of the merchants' wife image in San Yan and Er Pai,then combine with the source of story to analysis the image of merchants' wife,which are developed from the former generation works.And then take the social development since the mid-Ming Dynasty as the entry point and observe it's influence on the formation of images.According to the text the image can be divided into two types that the inward-linked merchants' wife and the outbound merchants' wife,to explore images connotation and characteristics.The second chapter explores the influence of Feng Menglong and Ling Yuechu's views on women on the image of merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai.After interpreting Feng Menglong and Ling Mengchu's views on women,discussing the complex conflicts and the impact on Feng Menglong and Ling Yuechu's literary creation.Then observe development and change under the contradiction of the merchants' wife.They had not yet achieved completely economic independence;they cannot completely escape the shackles of feudal etiquette;the talents of merchants' wife compared to the talents of men still quite inferior.The third chapter discusses the ideological and cultural significance of the image of merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai.Through the marriage views of the merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai and their demands for independence and self-worth,the progressive nature of the merchants' wife is analyzed.Through the affirmation of the pursuit of wealth held by the business woman,the progressive nature of the merchants' wife can be explained from they support wealth,diminished awe of officials,and keep the unique attitude of citizens towards life.The image of merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai serve as a link between past and future,not only absorbed the characteristics of the merchants' wife in previous literature,but also had a profound impact on later novels and dramas.The image of merchants' wife in San Yan and Er Pai inherited the characteristics of the merchants' wife in literary works since Wei and Jin Dynasties.In the late Ming Dynasty,there have been new changes.The characteristic temper of an age made the merchants' wife haven the tendency of liberation of personality.However,due to historical limitations,they cannot be completely separated from feudal ethics.They were the observers and narrators of real life in the late Ming Dynasty,which reproduced the ideological and cultural characteristics of this era.The successful image of the San Yan and Er Pai have attracted other writers' attention to the merchants' wife,which has enriched the connotation of the merchants' wife group and profoundly influenced the creation of novels and dramas.
