| With the widespread application of the Internet, machine translation(MT)has basically gained recognition from the public due to its high speed and low costs. However, because of factors such as the limited content of the corpus and the inability to accurately identify the sentence components of the source text, there are aplenty problems in the version of MT.On this basis, targeted post-editing(PE)is an appropriate way to improve the quality of translation. This report is based on the practice of “MT+PE” of Chapter II of The Law of Succession that conveys the law to the public in popular language, aiming to improve people’s legal awareness. It also involves cultural background knowledge and professional terms, which requires high professional ability of translators. The Chapter II gives a detailed overview of all regulations and specific cases of testamentary. In this report, the translator collects relevant background knowledge and parallel texts as references in the pre-translation stage, and analyzes the language characteristics and translation difficulties of legal texts.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory and combined with cases, the translator analyzes the problems existing in the MT’s version, mainly including incorrect expression of terms, logical disorder, sentence patterns, inappropriate words and other problems, and also summarizes the PE strategies to search term-bases,analyze the sentence components, and convert synonyms. In the post-translation stage, the translator proofreads the edited version twice to verify the feasibility of the PE strategies,so as to make the whole text more coherent and readable.Through this translation practice, the translator has accumulated common error types and strategies in PE,in order to provide some references for other students. |
