Mythological masterpieces have been a constant source of sustenance for the narrative creation of Chinese animated films. As a part of popular culture, animated films are both commercial and artistic, and have become an important vehicle for promoting national spirit and recreating classic stories.2015’s "Journey to the West: The Return of the Great Sage" was a turning point in the revival of Chinese animation, and since then a series of excellent animated films adapted from mythological masterpieces have been born. These animated films selectively take materials from the vast mythological masterpieces, and appropriated the overall framework and collage of fragmentary materials to create a second version of the original text in line with the current values,so that the works present a unique oriental aesthetic style. How to use narrative techniques to tell "Chinese stories" and promote traditional culture is an important issue for animation creators in China.Based on the theories of narrative and film aesthetics, this paper selects animated films of mythological adaptations released from 2015 to 2021 as the main research objects. On the basis of a comparative study of the original mythological texts and the adapted animated films,we summarize the narrative strategies of the adaptations, reflect on their problems and The study also reflects on the problems and proposes optimized countermeasures.
