Research On The Magazine "Modern Student" Of The Republic Of China（1930-1934）

During the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,influenced by social changes,education began to change to modernization,and civilian education gradually became popular.The prosperity of education brought a huge book market to the publishing industry.Major publishing institutions began to compete to publish all kinds of students’ books.Dadong Book Company also contributed a number of high-quality books and periodicals to the book market during this period,attracting a large number of readers.Modern Student is one of them.It was founded in 1930.As a student magazine,its mission is to introduce the current situation of education at home and abroad and the trend of thought in literature and art by collecting famous works in science,art and sports.Introduce all kinds of scientific knowledge and teach learning methods;Introduce sports knowledge and enhance students’ awareness of sports.This paper takes Modern Student as the research object,makes an overall in-depth analysis of its founding background,general situation and characteristics,focuses on digging out the characteristics of the journal in the construction of public opinion space,and studies its social value and limitations in running the journal.Firstly,the paper analyzes the background of the establishment of Modern Student.Secondly,the general situation of the publication of Modern Student is analyzed from four aspects: the publishing organization,the publication process,the founding purpose and the business model.The third part discusses the characteristics of running the journal of Modern Student,comprehensively analyzes the characteristics of its contents,columns and decorations,and studies the characteristics of its editors and authors,and discusses the dual role of the editors and the profound cultural background of the authors.The fourth part studies the construction of Modern Student on the space of public opinion,from the editor-reader interaction,public topics and ideas to delve into three parts.Finally,it demonstrates the advantages and disadvantages of Modern Student.On the one hand,it considers the value orientation of Modern Student under the influence of social trends of thought,and on the other hand,it considers the limitations of Modern Student in the phenomenon of "short publication",so as to enrich the research on the publishing history of modern student periodicals.
