Stanley Chan’s Acceptance Of Gibson’s “Sprawl Trilogy ” In Science Fiction

This dissemination takes Stanley Chan’s science fiction as the main research object and discusses his acceptance of William Gibson’s works.William Gibson was an excellent Western science fiction creator and his works have had a huge impact on the development of Chinese and Western science fiction creations.In the first chapter,this dissertation firstly expounds on the influence of western science fiction on relevant Chinese literature.Further,it refers to Stanley Chan’s acceptance of William Gibson.The continuous development of translation and introduction of science fiction in China has provided Stanley Chan with an opportunity to get in touch with Western science fiction works.The excellent learning experience also makes him more direct to read and accept Western science fiction works.In this process,William Gibson’s “Sprawling Metropolis Trilogy” had a crucial influence on Stanley Chan.The creation of science fiction is inseparable from the imagination of the future world.The boundary between the real and the virtual is the common concern of the two authors,which also constitutes the main content of the second chapter.With the development of science and technology,Gibson’s vision of the future in the 1980 s and1990s has been realized today.As the creator of contemporary science fiction,Stanley Chan is more concerned with imagining the future from today,so this is the difference in focus between the two.If William Gibson focuses on the blurring of the real and the virtual,then Stanley Chan has already taken the stand of acceptance and analyzed the problems that the blurred reality and the virtual will bring to future human beings.The third chapter examines Stanley Chan’s acceptance of William Gibson in the respect of characterization from the perspective of posthuman.Stanley Chan once clearly pointed out that the “cyborg” image in his works was influenced by the latter.But in terms of the social time and space in which Stanley Chan is currently living,cyborgs and artificial intelligence are no longer just an imagination,they have been accompanied by our daily life.Therefore,how to coexist harmoniously with “artificial intelligence” in the posthuman “Cyberspace” has become the focus of Stanley Chan’s character shaping.
