Abstract/Summary:
Homework is an integral part of the teaching process to promote student’s learning.Effective homework has always been one of the core topics in the field of English language teaching and learning.During the internship of being an English teacher,the author found that although the "Double Reduction Policy" has had positive impact on the teacher’s assigning homework,improving the effectiveness of homework is still a tough challenge for middle school English teaching.Many front-line teachers fail to think about what and why they need to consider for homework.They do not pay much attention to the validity and reliability of homework arrangement.Therefore,the effectiveness of homework is difficult to be fully realized.This research takes two classes of Grade 7 in The Twelfth Middle School of Zunyi City as the research subjects,and adopts questionnaires,interviews and classroom observation to study the current situation of English homework arrangement to enhance classroom English teaching and learning quality.Based on the six essential elements of curriculum,the study is to answer the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of English homework arrangement at the Twelfth Middle School in Zunyi City?(2)Based on the six elements of curriculum,what are the strategies for teachers to assign effective English homework?The research results show that there are some problems in homework arrangement at Zunyi’s Twelfth Middle School: the amount of hidden homework is still overloaded,the form and content are single,the evaluation is mainly based on teachers’ personal opinions with ignoring students’ voice,and the judgment only depends on whether the answer is right or not,all of these are difficult to stimulate students’ interest in learning.The study also finds that the six elements of English curriculum can provide a feasible and effective path for homework arrangement of English teachers in middle schools.It emphasizes that effective English homework need to closely link classroom teaching and learning.Teachers need to consider: the needs of students,curriculum syllabus,curriculum objectives,curriculum implementation methods,and evaluation feedback.
