| In 1954,the successful English-Russian translation experiment by a computer named IBM-701 marked the beginning of study on machine translation.In more than70 years since then,with the continuous upgrading and innovation of machine translation technology,the quality of machine translation has been constantly improved.Yet,machine translation still has many shortcomings and cannot completely replace human translation.Therefore,machine translation combined with post-editing is still the main translation method at present.This report analyzes the translation of a pharmacovigilance regulation guideline,Data Integrity by Design.Since it is a medical regulatory text,it is characterized by accurate language and standardized formatting,which makes it easy to draw on the translation corpus of similar texts;mature machine translation also emerges for medical texts;moreover,the time for translation is limited,so only by adopting the machine translation and post-editing can the translation be completed on schedule.This report is divided into four parts: task description,task process,machine translation error analysis and post-editing strategies and summary.In this report,the author analyzes the terminology,verb-object collocation,nominalization,passive voice,subordinate clause,inanimate subject,coherence and cohesion problems in the Atman machine translation text from the lexical,syntactic and discourse perspectives and proposes corresponding post-editing strategies such as structural conversion,conversion from passive voice to active voice,omission,merging and splitting of subordinate clause,conversion from inanimate subject to animate subject,punctuation addition and deletion and so on.Through this translation practice and translation report writing,the author’s translation experience has been enriched and translation skill has been enhanced.This report may also provide some reference for future research on machine translation and post-editing of medical regulation texts. |
