Reading teaching is part of English teaching,which is also one of the important ways to implement the core literacy of English subjects.The “General High School English Curriculum Standard” proposes that the overall goal of the general high school English curriculum is to fully implement the party’s educational policy.In the meantime,we are supposed to foster students about cross-cultural communication and to boost Chinese culture.Moreover,teachers should let them treat and understand other countries’ cultures correctly and encourage them to actively develop the strategies and abilities of cross-cultural communication to strengthen Chinese cultural self-confidence.The school where the author is located,due to the constraints of factors such as textbooks and further studies,teachers do not have enough time to cultivate students’ cross-cultural awareness.The research object is the students of a senior high school class in Hui Nan County.The main purpose is to cultivate students’ cross-cultural awareness in high school English reading.Teaching journals,interviews,and questionnaires were used as research tools.The research questions are as follows.(1)How to enhance students’ cross-cultural awareness in high school English reading class?(2)What impact does high school English reading teaching that enhances cross-cultural awareness have on students’ cross-cultural communicative competence and reading interest?The research results show that on one hand,recognizing the importance of cultivating and enhancing students’ cross-cultural consciousness,the teacher extends teaching from class to out of class.The cultivation of cross-cultural consciousness can not only be limited to classrooms,but also make the best of students’ spare time.In the class,teachers use group discussions and cross-cultural differences to compare the differences in different culture.Let students enhance their cross-cultural consciousness in cultural contexts.In the spare time,teachers use extra-curricular reading methods to allow students to use their favorite ways to internalize cross-cultural knowledge,and to externalize cross-cultural knowledge through speeches,painting,and singing.On the other hand,after enhancing cross-cultural consciousness,students have improved their reading interest.Students are able to preview the reading materials by themselves and actively participate in the group discussion during the class.Students’ cross-cultural communication capabilities have increased.They can bravely and actively share something that they have learnt in groups.At the same time,enhancing cross-cultural consciousness can also provide them with more communication knowledge,help students expand their horizons,and improve their sensitivity and tolerance to cultural differences.The inspiration of this action research,in high school English reading teaching,the new teaching design has stimulated students’ interest in reading and they are very eager to enhance their cross-cultural consciousness.Therefore,teachers should explore various forms of teaching activities to cultivate and enhance students’ cross-cultural consciousness.teachers should also explore various forms of teaching activities to cultivate and strengthen students’ cross-cultural consciousness,such as flash animation,moody class and so on.In the context of informatization and digitalization,teachers should make full use of and develop multimedia resources to make reaidng class vivid and fresh in order to attract students to participate and cultivate their cross-cultural consciousness.
