"Listening, speaking, reading and writing" are the four basic skills of language learners.Among them,"writing" can best reflect the comprehensive level of language learners. In recent years, scholars have paid extensive attention to the English writing of high school and junior high school students, but the English writing of junior high school students is still at a disadvantage.According to the current situation of English writing of junior high school students, there are many problems in language expression, and the most prominent problem is the misuse of predicate verbs. Therefore, this paper takes junior high school students as the research objects, investigates and analyzes the errors in the use of predicate verbs in their English writing, and tries to solve the following problems:(1)What are the common writing errors in English writing of junior high school students?(2)What types of predicate verb errors do junior high school students have in their English writing?(3)What are the reasons for the errors of predicate verbs in junior high school students’ English writing?Based on error analysis and interlanguage, the author uses text analysis, questionnaires and interviews to analyze the students’ English writing in detail,so as to find out the types of predicate verb errors.Meanwhile, questionnaires and interviews were used to investigate students and teachers in order to find out the reasons for making errors, and the major findings are as follows:(1)Through careful analysis on the mid-term exam composition of the second grade students, the author finds that the errors in the students’ writing include: verb errors, noun errors, preposition errors and other errors. The number of errors of verbs in the writing is more than other errors, among which the errors of predicate verbs occupies a great quantity.(2)The author classifies the errors of the predicate verbs according to the morphological changes of the verbs and the characteristics of the verbs themselves.Verb errors are divided into the following categories: multiple predicate verbs, absence of predicate verbs, collocation errors, predicate morphological errors, negative structure of predicate verbs and spelling errors.Among them, the predicate morphological change error accounts for the largest proportion.(3)Through the analysis of students’ writing, the author finds that there are many reasons for the errors. There are mainly interlingual transfer(interference from the mother tongue),intralingual transfer(interference from the target language)and other reasons. From the survey results of students,we find that students and teachers do not pay enough attention to English writing, and students are always in a passive state in the study of predicate verbs. From the results of interviews with teachers, the English teachers’ attitude of ignoring or avoiding predicate verbs in teaching is an important factor which lead students to use predicate verbs incorrectly.By analyzing the results of questionnaires and interviews, the author puts forward the following suggestions for English writing teaching:(1)to improve students’ interest in writing and to enhance students’ self-confidence;(2)to strengthen teachers and students’ attention to writing;(3)to pay attention to teaching grammar knowledge to improve students’ grammar level;(4)to carry out a variety of writing training to cultivate students’ good writing habits;(5)to use a variety of evaluation methods to stimulate students’ enthusiasm for writing.
