| Reading has always played an important role in the English teaching and is also the top priority for the students in high school English learning.However,in our high school English reading teaching,many teachers still use the traditional reading teaching methods,pay too much attention to the interpretation of the grammar,vocabulary and sentence structure,and ignored the students’ reading strategies and skills.As a result,the students’ reading initiative and reading ability have been seriously hindered.The mind mapping method is a visual knowledge representation tool,which can help the students to grasp the structure of the sentences and understand the main ideas of the text by using keywords,colors and graphics to present the knowledge.Based on the schema theory,the meaningful learning theory,the memory systems theory and the knowledge visualization theory,this thesis tries to apply the mind mapping method to the English reading teaching in the senior high school.It is verified that the use of the mind mapping method is helpful to improve the accuracy and speed of the students’ English reading.What’s more,it can improve the students’ reading interests and abilities.In this study,78 students were selected from the Grade 2,Dalian Jinqiao High School,as the research objects.The different teaching methods were used in the experimental class and the control class for 12 weeks of the teaching experiment.Before the experiment,the author used the questionnaires and reading tests respectively to have a deep understanding of the reading interest and reading level of the students in the two classes.Then,the author uses the mind mapping method in the experimental class and the traditional teaching methods in the control class to teach the English reading.At the end of the experiment,the author used the questionnaire again to investigate the reading interest of the students of the two classes,and also conducted a questionnaire survey on the application effects of the mind mapping method for the students of the experimental class.The research questions of the study are proposed as follows: 1.What is the effect of the mind mapping method on the English reading speed of the senior high school students? 2.What is the effect of the mind mapping method on the English reading accuracy of the senior high school students? 3.What is the effect of the mind mapping method on the English reading scores of the senior high school students? At the same time,the author also tested the reading comprehension ability of the students in the two classes after the experiment.The results are as followed:First,applying the mind mapping method into the high school English reading teaching can significantly improve the students’ English reading speed and their English scores.Besides,the application of the mind mapping method in the high school English reading teaching can effectively promote the students’ understanding of the contents and the structures of the English reading materials and can also improve the students’ English reading ability and accuracy. |
