Why Gambling

The problem of youth gambling is not only a social problem but also an individual problem.Gambling hinders social development,endangers young people’s health,and is not conducive to their growth.Existing research on youth gambling issues provides us with many important guidance and references for understanding the situation,harm,causes and solutions of youth gambling,but existing research also have some issues such as lack of subjectivity,lack of dynamic perspective,lack of system intervention strategies.This research adopts qualitative research methods,selects the research objects through snowball sampling,conducts in-depth interviews with youth who have experienced or are experiencing gambling problems,tries to analyze the characteristics,hazards and causes of youth participation in gambling,and tries to explain the theoretical connotations behind their causes.And on this basis,put forward suggestions for social work intervention.This study found that the current characteristics of gambling are mainly digitization,the development of gambling industrialization,and the flexible change of gambling roles.The harm of youth gambling is mainly due to the huge economic losses suffered by young people and their family systems,and also seriously affects the physical and mental health of young people and destroys the youth’s family harmony and social interaction network.On the analysis of youth gambling development problems,the study found that the development of youth gambling problems has stages,and abstracts the development process of youth gambling problems into the contact development stage-obstacle stage-stop stage.From the contact stage to the obstacle stage,the injuries suffered by the youth increase in order,until they are maximized.In addition,the study also found that young people have different reasons for participating in gambling at different stages,showing diversity and dynamic characteristics.Based on the research findings,this study proposes that the diversity of causes of youth gambling problems should be respected,and the youth gambling problem should be viewed from the perspective of people in the environment,seeing the mutual influence of individual and environment interaction on gambling problems,and paying attention to the role of financial ability in youth gambling problem’s development process.Give play to the social work personality and social characteristics in the intervention of youth gambling problems with the overlap of individual and social problems on the advantage.Actively carry out research on youth gambling from the perspective of financial social work,and individually help young people get rid of the gambling dilemma.With this as a guide,this study proposes social work intervention strategies to help youth prevent and solve from the macro,meso,and micro perspectives on the diverse causes of youth in the contact stage,suspension stage,development stage,obstacle stage,and individual youth needs.Gambling problems help young people grow up healthily.For example,for the unfavorable gambling social environment,we can remediate the social environment by calling attention,social advocacy,and working together with other social forces to prevent youth gambling problems;for gambling cognitive errors caused by the lack of gambling and anti-gambling education should let schools or families to actively carry out anti-gambling knowledge education services to help young people establish a correct understanding of gambling behavior;for the problem of low financial ability of young people,they can carry out financial social work intervention projects to improve youth financial ability and help young people prevent gambling behind Financial risk;for youths with gambling obstacles,a case management method can be used to adopt cognitive behavioral therapy,task center model and related consulting services to set up a gambling cessation group method to help young people change their misunderstandings,reduce gambling behavior,and obtain anti-gambling social support.
