A Study On The Political Identity Of Youth Groups In Singapore

Political identity is an important part of real political life.It is an important tool to maintain political system which connects the social members and political system.Young Singaporeans play an important role in Singapore’s social structure.The political identity of young Singaporeans is always at a high level from the beginning of Singapore’s development until it becomes prosperity.Such a political identity strengthens the ruling legitimacy of the People’s Action Party,resolves ethnic conflicts,and plays a fundamental role in social stability in Singapore.In the meanwhile,the political identity of youth groups also plays an important role in the construction of social governance structure in Singapore.It promotes the clean society construction,and the national governance way transformation,accelerates the formation of national awareness among youth groups,and becomes an important magic weapon for Singapore to resist the impact of "westernization" thought as well.However,the Singapore People’s Action Party faces all kinds of challenges from economic,political,social and international environments due to maintaining its long-term governance in the context of globalization,which makes the more active youth groups appear certain confusion and instability.The effectiveness of governance has been weakened and there is a decline in the stability of youth identity because of the slower economic growth,the widening gap between rich and poor and the uneven distribution of income.The demographic changes in the national ethnic groups and the more frequent movement of people between the international community have contributed to the weakness of ethnic identity and the diversity of ethnic minority ideologies among young people from abroad,and the cohesion and centripetal force of the youth group has been weakening as well.On the other hand,the rise of new media technology offers more possibilities for political participation and dissemination,increases political discourse of youth groups,and even has an impact on the trend of social development,thus reducing the identity of youth groups towards the People’s Action Party to some extent.How to enhance the political identity of youth groups and maintain social stability is an important and realistic topic for Singapore and the People’s Action Party.Therefore,the core issue of this research is to explore how Singapore and the People’s Action Party properly correspond to and guide youth political identity on the basis of investigating the status and role of Singapore’s youth political identity.Singapore’s youth political identity has different appearance and state at different stages of economic and social development,and it also changes the coping strategies of Singapore and the ruling party as a result.First of all,it tries to attract young elites to join the Party through internal training and outside party recruitment,and multiple channels,and reforms youth participation mechanism in politics with the times.It provides the youth groups with more ways to participate in politics,as well as helping them to deepen their understanding of the country and the ruling party,thus creating an identity resonance.Secondly,Second,“identity” runs through Singapore’s political socialization.Whether it is the school’s multilanguage education and awareness of suffering education,or the promotion of common values for all the people,is to cultivate national awareness,their purpose is to increase the national,especially the youth of their own national identity and political identity.It also gives special attention to the positive role of new media in the political socialization of youth groups.Singapore and its ruling party are judging the situation,ensure the political identity of the youth the political identity of youth can remain relatively stable even in the face of an increasingly complex economic and social environment through flexible adjustment of social development policy,content of political system construction and ideological education and guidance for youth groups,so as to achieve the purpose of consolidating the ruling position of the people’s Action Party and promoting social stability and development.
