The Positive Influence Of Media Multitasking On Teenagers’ Audio-visual Integration | | Posted on:2021-05-08 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:H Y Lin | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2506306467967319 | Subject:Master of Education | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | With the rapid development of information technology,media multitasking has become the main form of media use in teenagers’ life.There have been many studies abroad on the influence of media multitasking on adolescents’ cognitive function and academic performance,but the current conclusions are not unified.The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of media multitasking on the audiovisual integration function of adolescents through two experiments,as well as whether the attention characteristics and attention processing strategies of media multitasking processors with different experience levels are different,and what characteristics they have respectively.In this study,we first used the media use questionnaire to screen out the high and low media multitasking experience group.In Experiment 1,a 2(media multitasking experience: high,low)× 3(auditory condition:matching between pronunciation and target word,mismatch between pronunciation and target word,silent)hybrid experimental design was used.Using English words as visual materials and word pronunciation as auditory materials,this paper explores the influence of teenagers’ media multitasking experience on audio-visual integration,and investigates the attention characteristics and attention processing strategies of media multitasking processors with different experience levels.The results showed that the accuracy of matching conditions was significantly higher than that of silent and mismatched conditions,and the response time was significantly shorter than that of silent and mismatched conditions,while the difference between the accuracy and response time of mismatched conditions and silent conditions was not significant,and the response time of high experience group was significantly shorter than that of low experience group,and there was no significant difference between the two groups.The response time of low experience group was significantly shorter than that of matching condition and mismatching condition,the difference between matching condition and mismatching condition was not significant,and there was no significant difference between high and low experience group under silent condition.In Experiment 2,a mixed experimental design of 2(media multitasking experience: high,low)× 3(auditory condition: matching between pronunciation and target word,mismatch between pronunciation and target word,silence)× 3(matrix size: 3 × 3,4 × 4,5 × 5)was used.Furthermore,the effects of different interference intensities on the processing of dual channelinformation by media multitasking processors are discussed,and the attention characteristics and attention processing strategies of media multitasking processors are further verified.The results showed that under the condition of 3 × 3 matrix,the response time and accuracy of the high experience group were significantly shorter and higher than that of the low experience group;under the condition of 4 × 4 matrix,the response time and accuracy of the high experience group were significantly shorter and higher than that of the low experience group;under the condition of 5 × 5 matrix,the response time difference between the high experience group and the low experience group was not significant,and the accuracy of the high experience group was significantly higher than that of the low experience group.The results show that highly experienced people have a wide range of attention,rich attention resources and distracted attention.In media multitask processing,attention allocation processing strategy is used to produce audio-visual semantic integration when the semantic of audio-visual information is consistent.Low experienced people have a narrow range of attention,less attention resources and focused attention.In media multitask processing,attention allocation processing strategy is used When the semantics of audio-visual information are consistent,there is no integration of audio-visual semantics. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Teenagers, media multitasking, audiovisual integration, attention strategies | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
