Research On Yang Du’s Thoughts Of Nationalism

In the late 19 th century and early 20 th century,China was in a turbulent period of great changes.The traditional "world doctrine" was unprecedentedly impacted by the Western world.The kingdom of heaven once faced the danger of collapse.The call to save the national crisis and self-improvement and seed protection gradually increased.The concept of "the world" began to be strongly replaced by the concept of nation-states.Constructing a new national political order to be independent of the international community became the most important and urgent task at that time.Therefore,nationalism with the main goals of protecting national security,safeguarding national interests,and establishing national authority just adapted to the needs of saving the nation and enriching the country and became a theoretical value proposition that was generally accepted at the time.Yang Du,who studied in Japan,actively explored ways to save the country and the people,studied Western political and legal systems and theoretical theories,and combined China’s local conditions and people’s conditions to form a unique country based on the trinity of the goal of enriching the country,a responsible government,and the rule of law ideology.A free national is the foundation of a country’s prosperity.He advocated expanding civil rights and giving people freedom to develop industry and commerce.The establishment of a responsible government is a prerequisite for consolidating national power and maintaining national unity.It is precisely because of the irresponsibility of the Qing government that it led to the loss of state power and the country’s poverty.Based on the analysis of the international environment at that time,Yang Du believed that first of all,it is necessary to develop military forces to maintain national security,that is,"military nation-building." The responsible government should adopt a constitutional monarchy.The foundation of a constitutional state lies in the "constitution." In terms of the amendment of the constitution,he advocates replacing the family law with a nationalist law and liberating individuals from the family.Individuals are directly in the country.They are all equal subjects of rights and obligations before the law,and nationals,monarchs,and governments must all act within the law.Yang Du’s thought is a combination of his "Emperorology" and Western constitutional monarchy.On the one hand,he worships barbarism and power,with a tendency toward moral nihilism.On the other hand,the responsible government in Yang Du’s thought has a certain enlightening effect on the current construction of the government under the rule of law in our country.
