Abstract/Summary:
Fertility activities exist with the emergence of human beings, and population plays an important role in national policy and stability,so policy guidance penetrates into private fields such as abortion.Abortion,as an important measure to control fertility behavior, has undergone various changes-early natural reproduction and autonomous abortion, which changed in the 19 th century, and was influenced by both religion and medical circles. The country restricted abortion behavior in a controllable range through legislation, that is,the criminalization of abortion.Subsequently, due to the change of economic and family concepts, small families gradually replaced big families as the main way of life.Contraception and abortion have become the main means to realize this lifestyle.Although abortion is prohibited by law, women still get abortion information through various channels.Such behaviors are repeatedly prohibited, and the underlying social trends and women’s sense of physical autonomy form a potential tension with the law.The adoption of British Abortion Act 1967 reversed the criminalization of abortion, which was a victory for women’s autonomy and an inevitable trend of history. This paper focuses on the abortion activities of British women and examines the evolution of abortion in British history. The first chapter discusses the evolution of abortion behavior in Britain before the introduction of Abortion Act 1967,introduces several important laws on abortion regulations, and analyzes the role of religious factors, medical circles and folk abortion organizations in hindering or promoting the transformation from legal restriction to freedom of behavior. The second chapter, from the perspective of legislation, through the medical investigation report and parliamentary records and other documents, specifically examines the process of the Abortion Act 1967 from proposal to debate. In this dynamic process, the attitudes of different social camps towards women’s abortion were reduced, and the typical British spirit of compromise was vividly reflected through discussion and debate. The third chapter discusses the actual cases by classification, and analyzes the influence of Abortion Act passed in 1967 on British society from the judicial level. In the course of court proceedings, doctors’ dereliction of duty, judges’ judgment on fetal status and foreign women’s handling of practical problems,on the one hand, exposed the deficiencies in the field of social services after the passage of the bill,on the other hand, showed the society’s relaxed attitude towards women’s abortion. The fourth chapter makes a philosophical thinking on abortion from the theoretical level, expounds the irrationality of the framework of the contradiction between the right to life of fetus and women’s autonomy, and discusses the importance of women’s subjective consciousness. Finally, combined with the Abortion Act 1967,the advantages and disadvantages of the law are analyzed and evaluated historically.
