Abstract/Summary:
In the traditional political concepts, the "civil reason" of maintaining the "just" community occupies a dominant position in the political concept. However, this traditional political idiom failed in the 16 th century. The "reason of state",which provides a philosophical basis for "unjust" state behavior, rose and flourished after the1980 s.This prosperity benefited from the publication of Giovanni Botero’s reason of state, which made the term "reason of state" popular with the public. In order to improve the research on the ideological trend of "reason of state",this paper focuses on Botero’s book "reason of state",supplemented by Botero’s book "Greatness of Cities" and insufficient literature in domestic academic circles, and arranges its ideological analysis into the following three aspects: first, the moral "reason of state" of.Boteror’s purifies concept of "reason of state",analyzing and demonstrating that relying on the virtue of the monarch can also effectively govern and preserve the country, and the connotation of "reason of state" is not limited to "immorality".The second is the religious thought in Botero’s view of "reason of state".He regards religion as the source of all virtues of the monarch,in order to bridge the trend of separation between "reason of state" and religion. At the same time,he firmly opposed religious reform. The third is the economic thought in Botero’s view of "reason of state".His demographic thought, emphasis on manufacturing and colonial thought provide a great reference value for future theoretical research.
