In recent years,Autism has become one of serious disease which have the fastest growing patients in the world, and the reports in many media are also increasing. In order to explore how media present and construct the image of Autism group, the article selects the reports about Autism in China youth Daily which were published during October,1,2010 to October,1,2019 as the sample for content analysis. In the meantime, the paper attempts to relative completely explore the realistic image of Autism group through in-depth interviews with families and teachers of autistic patients and text analysis of five books written by Autism patients, their families and experts. Then, comparing Autism group’s media image and realistic image, the article explore the similarities and differences between this two types of image and the reasons for the differences. Finally,it will think about the problems that the media which represented by China youth Daily should pay attention to when reporting news about Autism group. It is found that the media image of Autism group construct by China youth Daily is not completely consistent with their realistic image. The media images of Autism group are mainly divided into five categories—“lonely star-children”,“problem children”,“heavy burden”,“idiot genius” and “disadvantaged group”.and they are less likely to show their desire to communication with others, rich inner and optimistic character in reality.Meanwhile, from the perspective of suffering, most of reports put the Autism group in a relatively passive position, which leads to the problem that the image of Autism group is stereotyped and one-sided.As a whole,it is not real, comprehensive and three-dimensional,which may affect the audience’s correct cognition of this group. The reasons for these differences include constraints of specific news frames, influence of social stereotypes, and service of mainstream ideology. So the article suggests that more media, including China youth Daily, should improve their reports from such aspects as attaching importance to humanistic care, building a dialogue platform and breaking stereotypes. The media also should show their diversity as independent individuals, try their best to fully and objectively restore the realistic image of the autism group, improve the understanding and acceptance of community, and create a environment which is suitable for Autism group’s rehabilitation and development.
