A Study Of Torres’ Political Sociology Of Adult Education

Carlos Alberto Torres,president of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies(WCCES),is a professor at the University of California,Los Angeles.This article mainly studies Torres’ adult education political sociology.By using the methods of literature,systematic analysis and comparative research,this paper analyzes the ideological influencing factors,life experience,background of the times,theoretical basis,main viewpoints,ideological evaluation and influence enlightenment of Torres’ Political Sociology of adult education.In the context of neoliberalism,in order to study the development and changes of adult education,Torres,from the perspective of political sociology,reveals the new crisis of social civilization,reinterprets the concept of lifelong learning,studies the learning model,policy planning model,and transformative role of adult education,and makes a critical analysis of adult education centered on instrumental rationality.Torres classified the adult education policy planning and the development mode of adult learning education.According to the different development strategies and political participation strategies,Torres divides the adult education policy planning model into a modernization-human capital model,an pedagogy of the oppressed popular education model,a pragmatism idealism model,and a social engineering model.According to empirical research conducted in various countries,Torres divides the development model of adult learning education into a welfare state model,a recruitment franchise model,a forced modernization model,a revolutionary model,and a popular public adult learning education model that is still in its infancy.Through the study of Torres’ adult learning and education model,it attempts to analyze the relationship between policy-making and adult learning education development.To discuss the issue of the rationality of adult education,he demonstrated the rationality of adult learning education from six aspects of constitutional mandates,human capital investment,political socialization,compensatory legalization,international pressures and social movements.Torres analyzes the development trend of adult education policy,puts forward the idea of adult learning education transformative social justice learning model.Torres’ Political Sociology of adulteducation plays an important role in the construction of democracy and the development of adult education in China and the world.
