Study On The Income Distribution Effect Of Quality Upgrading Of Imported Products In China’s Manufacturing Enterprises

Since the reform and opening up,our economy has made a leapfrog progress under the impetus of foreign trade.However,the increasing inequality of residents’ income as an accessory of development dividend has also followed.According to China’s existing data,the total trade volume increased from less than 4 trillion yuan in 2000 to 32.16 trillion yuan in 2020,and the Gini coefficient also increased from 0.412 in the early 21st century to 0.465 in 2019.The two values not only show coincidence in the time series,but also have consistency in the development trend.This phenomenon makes it necessary for us to increase the exploration of the correlation between them.Under this reality,this paper from the viewpoint of import re-examines the influence effectiveness of the China’s imported quality on the skill wage gap,thus supplies the necessary theoretical support for perfecting the theoretical achievements of international trade and labor economics,expanding the influence mechanism of imported product quality on skill wage gap,and readjusting the public policy of trade and income distribution.The paper systematically enumerates three influential mechanism that the quality of imported products in manufacturing industry affects wage inequality,based on the income distribution effect of trade and the basic thought of the heterogeneous firm trade theory.Based on this,three basic theoretical hypotheses are put forward:profit incentive mechanism can enlarge the skill wage gap by making use of the profitability of enterprises;The labor demand mechanism further expands the skill wage differentials through the preference of enterprises to highly skilled worker,but under the product price mechanism,the conclusion of narrowing the skill wage gap is drawn according to the S-S theorem.In this text,two core indicators,the imported product quality and skill wage gap,are calculated by utilizing data in the industrial enterprise database and the customs database from 2000 to 2007.In the empirical analysis,the positive correlation both the imported quality and the skill wage gap was verified by multiple linear regression.Meanwhile,the heterogeneity analysis of enterprises found that the quality of imported products in the manufacture was affected by the economic level and the business type.The results display that the influence of product quality on the wage inequality is maximum in the eastern seaboard,followed by the midlands and the minimum is the west area.In terms of enterprise type,the imported quality has a more obvious widening function on the skill wage gap within non-state-owned enterprises and export enterprises.Then,using the stepwise regression method,it is verified that the imported quality would affect the income of employees through influencing the earning power of establishments and preference for capable workers,while the product price mechanism is invalid after verification.Finally,various constructive opinions are put forward for enterprises,industries and countries.
