Scarcity is the situation where there is less "have" than "need".Scarcity affects individual cognition,decision-making and behavior. The Positive Youth Development focuses on the autonomy of adolescents and the advantage resources available in the environment, and attaches great importance to the interaction of "individual ←→ situation".The Relational Development System believes that external resources and internal resources jointly determine the positive development of adolescents. Then when the external resources are relatively insufficient, what will be the impact on the individual self-regulation and behavior of junior high school students? In this study, field and laboratory experiments were conducted to explore the effects of scarcity and competition on intentionality selfregulation and prosocial behavior of junior high school students. In the first study, the effects of scarcity on intentionality self-regulation and prosocial behavior of172 junior middle school students were measured by manipulating scarcity scenarios through scenario imagination. The second study introduced the daily competition situation of junior middle school students--the final exam to explore the influence of different competition intensity on individual intentionality self-regulation and prosocial behavior tendency. In the third study,a laboratory experiment was conducted to create scarcity and competition situations to study the relationship between scarcity and competition, and the effects on intentionality self-regulation and prosocial behavior.Through three studies, the specific results are as follows :(1)Compared with the non-scarcity situation, individuals in the scarcity situation show higher levels of intentionality self-regulation and less prosocial behavior;(2)In the daily competitive situation, the level of intentionality self-regulation was higher in the strong competitive environment than in the weak competitive environment; In the experimental task, the participants in the competitive situation had a lower level of intentionality selfregulation than those in the non-competitive situation. The influence of competition on prosocial behavior was not significant.(3)The interaction between scarcity and competition was not significant on intentionality self-regulation and prosocial behavior.Overall, the results demonstrate that scarcity and competition can influence intentionality self-regulation and prosocial behavior of junior high school students.
