The General Office of the State Council, issued on 10 August 2019,states that "by 2020,a new mechanism for the development of sports required to build a moderately prosperous society will be established, the comprehensive strength of competitive sports will be further enhanced, and the sports industry will make new progress in high-quality development." In the era of the "new",we must seize the opportunities and meet the challenges. The Opinion also proposes to "promote the balanced development of winter sports, summer sports, men’s sports and women’s sports, and significantly increase global strength and international influence." The one-year postponement of the Olympic Games due to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus outbreak presents both an opportunity and a challenge for the Chinese taekwondo team.Taekwondo has always been a dominant sport in the Olympic Games, and the high-quality development of the taekwondo program will have a certain promotion effect on the high-quality development of competitive sports as well as the construction of a strong sports nation. However, the performance of China’s men’s big division has always been in the middle and lower levels, which has led to the problems of China’s taekwondo program, such as the decline of the yin and the yang, and the uncoordinated development, etc. How to improve the athletic ability of athletes in this division, make up for the shortcomings, and improve the scientific level of training will be the most important. This study analysed the data of 16 athletes from 19 matches in the taekwondo +80kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.Using literature, video observation, mathematical and statistical methods, and logical analysis, the technical and tactical deployment of the men’s taekwondo +80kg event was analysed to determine the technical and tactical characteristics of the men’s taekwondo-80 kg event at the Tokyo Olympics,to summarise the characteristics of the technical and tactical use of the +80kg men’s taekwondo athletes,to identify the problems and deficiencies in the technical and tactical use of Chinese athletes, and to improve the Chinese men’s taekwondo athletes and provide practical suggestions for improving the technical and tactical level of Chinese men’s taekwondo athletes, and provide reference and suggested information for scientific and effective training. The study showed that:(1)In the men’s taekwondo +80kg class of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the main offensive technique used was the front leg technique, especially the front leg cross kick technique, which could provide certain advantages to the athletes in terms of distance control and damage attacks;the number of side kicks used increased significantly, and the most successful offensive technique used was still the rear leg cross kick technique.(2)In the men’s taekwondo +80kg class at the Tokyo Olympics, the number of technical moves used consistently increased from the first to the third inning of each match, but the scoring rate dropped significantly in the third inning, and the efficiency of completing moves in the third inning was extremely low.(3)In the men’s taekwondo +80kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, the use of the neutral technique was high, but the success rate was low.Clicking technique was the main technique used, followed by two consecutive strikes technique,multi-strike technique was used less often, and clicking technique was the main scoring technique.(4)In the men’s taekwondo +80kg class at the Tokyo Olympics, attacking was the main tactic and scoring method used, with the front leg being the main attack. In defence, defensive tactics were mainly defensive back kicks, counter tactics were used relatively rarely, and welcoming tactics were mainly welcoming front cross kicks.Suggestions:(1)Enhance precision training to ensure technical success rate.It is recommended that in future training, big level athletes should enhance the accuracy of front leg cross kicks to accurately hit the effective scoring area and improve the technical success rate and effective scoring rate, while maintaining excellent defensive ability and increasing the efficiency of the use of defensive counterattacks.(2)Cultivate the ability to observe tactics and give reasonable play to personal advantages. It is recommended that big level players develop and improve their tactical observation ability and awareness in the first game.In the absence of the coach’s technical and tactical arrangements,by observing and mastering the opponent’s tactical arrangements and deployment, they can reasonably plan their personal technical and tactical layout and physical distribution,so that they can bring their advantages into play until the end of the match.(3)Strengthen the use of difficult techniques and improve proficiency. It is recommended that big level athletes should strengthen the training and application of difficult techniques, improve the proficiency of difficult movements, enhance self-confidence,and dare to use turning, spinning, and difficult hitting techniques in the competition.(4)Improve your own tactical ability and enrich your tactical forms. It is recommended that athletes seriously study the technical and tactical styles of outstanding foreign athletes in training and use them in combination with their own skills and physical conditions.Enrich the form of tactics, maximize the arrangement and use of a variety of tactical combinations.(5)Pay attention to strengthening physical training,to avoid the lack of physical fitness affect the normal play of the athletic level ability. The core stability training, cardiorespiratory endurance strengthening training, etc.should be enhanced, and targeted physical training should be carried out in conjunction with the characteristics of the sport of taekwondo and the individual characteristics of the athletes.
