The original purpose of clothing design is usually practical-oriented,such purposes as basic heatinsulation and body protection.Accompanied with the development of society,clothing is gradually making more influences in our lives.At the same time,it derives social symbols and artistic languages.As for the ‘fold’ element studied in this essay,although it is only a simple selection of clothing process category,it appeared through the entire development of the clothing and fashion history,especially on its concept and style.No matter we are talking about the old days or at this moment,‘fold’ concept is vital in both eras.The social status and grade division can be reflected by the way of dressing,and thanks to the social progress,nowadays the clothing design provides significant economic values for the fashion brands and also express designers’ inspirations.Therefore,the ‘fold’ concept in this paper is not only an expression of clothing,but also draws a not sign for the form and trend in clothing industry.By introducing two artistic campaigns in early 20 th century as well as the development of the whole humanities and art,we will see the impact of the ‘fold’ applied on the concept transformation of clothing.Finally,we will explore more possibilities of the ‘fold’ via introducing modern and classic designs.In order to find out the tendency of ‘fold’ and lines,we discovered the relations of ‘fold’,clothing and our body from the perspective of current technologies and trending design ideas.
