Siheyuan architecture is a vivid embodiment of the old Beijing culture. It experienced the development of yuan,Ming,Qing Dynasty and anti Japanese war.The existing traditional Siheyuan in Beijing basically maintained the shape of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its unique courtyard form has become a typical representative of traditional residential buildings in China. The old Beijing Quadrangle is unique in the history of Chinese architecture. With the rapid development of the city and the renewal and change of the old city, how to renovate the quadrangle on the basis of protection has become the first problem that design researchers need to solve. At present, the definition of the concept of residential space design in Siheyuan and the concept of space protection and renewal in Siheyuan are relatively vague in China, which makes it difficult to combine theoretical research with practical design projects. In particular, the theory of space narrative is taken as the research perspective, and the research on the renewal and transformation of traditional Beijing Siheyuan is rare. This paper applies the theory of space narratology, environmental psychology, semiotics, etc In the specific design of Siheyuan residential quarters in Laku Hutong, the space of the old Beijing Siheyuan residential quarters was updated and transformed,in order to explore new ideas in the study of space design and cultural heritage. On the basis of literature review and on-the-spot investigation, this paper analyzes the development status of the old Beijing Siheyuan, puts forward the existing problems in the renewal of the old city and the space transformation, and gives the possible imagination of the space transformation of the Siheyuan according to the existing contradictions, which is of great theoretical and practical significance for promoting the future development of the old Beijing Siheyuan through the design of the accommodation space. The specific research object is No.24 courtyard of the old Beijing Laku Hutong.Through the point study of No.24 courtyard, extending to the linear block study, the overall planning of the development and design of the Beijing Siheyuan residential quarters is summarized. The research adopts the methods of on-the-spot investigation, information collection,on-the-spot mapping, block interview, data background investigation, etc.to integrate all-round information of the research object, and summarizes and puts forward the existing problems and reasons of the accommodation space of the Siheyuan.Through the collection of basic status quo problems and basic information collection,we can grasp the main contradictions among many factors that affect the transformation design, clarify the design theoretical point of view, and finally present specific design solutions based on the analysis of possible measures.Firstly, the research elaborates the related theories of the renovation design and spatial narratology of the old Beijing Siheyuan, and forms the theoretical support for the renovation of the old Beijing Siheyuan.Secondly,it analyzes the current contradictions of the renovation of the old Beijing Siheyuan in the modern life state, and puts forward the feasibility of the research on the space design of the old Beijing Siheyuan. Finally,it analyzes the modern people Compared with the traditional living style of old Beijing, the research on the living environment and psychological space living demand analyzes the existing contradictions and possible solutions.Combined with the space narrative theory,it finds the key dependency points in the traditional and modern transformation of the residential space of Siheyuan, which provides the theoretical basis for the implementation of the design scheme.Based on the old Beijing culture and the psychological needs of modern living environment, this paper studies the space design and transformation of No.24 courtyard in Laku Hutong,Beijing.Through the practice and design of specific projects,it summarizes the application mode of space narrative theory in the design of homestay,in order to solve the problem of space renewal and transformation based on the protection of Siheyuan Design and propose specific solutions.Based on the logical thinking of putting forward, analyzing and solving problems, and combining with the graduation creative design of No.24 Institute of Beijing Laku Hutong, the paper makes a theoretical research and practical verification on the feasibility of the design of the old Beijing Siheyuan's residential space transformation.Based on the theory of space narrative, this paper discusses the multi-level conception of the design method of Beijing Siheyuan residential space, and discusses the theoretical basis of the renewal of the design of Siheyuan residential space under the traditional background of old Beijing.Combining the concept of spatial narrative with the traditional architectural form of the old Beijing Siheyuan,it has built a common bridge between the research on the functional transformation of the traditional architectural courtyard at the level of design, transformation and planning, and the needs of modern human settlements, and the protection and renewal of historical culture and ancient architecture, which has been inherited and carried forward in the space transformation design.
