The Joy Luck Club is the first novel of Chinese-American writer,Amy Tan.This thesis takes Tan’s The Joy Luck Club as the research text,takes Wolfgang Iser ’s Response-Inviting Structure and Zhu Liyuan ’s Five Levels of Literary Work Structure as the theoretical basis,comprehensively analyzes Tan’s The Joy Luck Club,and reveals its literary aesthetic value.Firstly,this paper introduces the Joy Luck Club and its author,Amy Tan.Then,the thesis introduces Iser’ s Response-Inviting Structure and Zhu Liyuan’ s Five Levels of Literary Work.Finally,this thesis comprehensively analyzes the Response-Inviting Structure of The Joy Luck Club from the unique narrative technique of the novel and the two levels of the five levels of the literary works proposed by Zhu Liyuan,namely the semantic level and the emotional level.This work both in the narrative technique,the ambiguous words,rich symbols and metaphors or dislocation of the thoughts and feelings is full of Response-Inviting Structure,and it constantly invites readers to involve in the construction of literary text,which makes the readers exposed to the literary text,and let the readers think and feel.The aesthetic value of literature is also reflected in the process of readers’ participation in text construction.
