Research On The Image Of Soldiers In Chinese And American Films Since The New Century

As an important carrier of mass entertainment and cultural communication,movies show the comprehensive strength of a country to the world from various aspects.Military movies have always attracted the attention and love of the public.After entering the 21^stcentury,with the release of movies such as“Charging Out Amazon”,“Operation Red Sea”,“Wolf Warrior”and other movies which gained both reputation and box-office,the once dormant Chinese military-themed movies attract the attention of the audience again.The films'increasingly full.The United States,both as a movie giant and a military power,has been continuously working hard to build the image of the U.S.military as“righteous”,“omnipotent”,and“omnipresent”.With the good reputation and high box-office of Hollywood films such as“The Hurt Locker”and“Hacksaw Ridge”,the overall image of the United States,the U.S.military and the values they promote have spread widely in the world.This thesis first classifies the types of films on the portrayal of the Chinese military in Chinese films and analyzes the characteristics of Chinese military portrayal;secondly,it classifies the types of films on the portrayal of the U.S.military in American films and analyzes the characteristics of American military portrayal;thirdly,it compares the military image in Chinese and American films and analyzes their differences in an attempt to realize a comparative discussion and exploration of military portrayal in Chinese and American films from both vertical and horizontal dimensions.With three aspects mentioned above,this thesis intends to provide some reference for the military portrayal in Chinese military films.
