In the study of modern Chinese grammar, scholars have established a series of syntactic and semantic categories based on the characteristics of Chinese by introducing foreign typical category theories and combining Chinese form with meaning.Modal categories are one of them.On the basis of Lyons(1977),domestic scholars generally divide Chinese modal categories into three categories:cognition, motivation, and morality.Among them, motivational modalities include the basic type of will.Based on previous studies, this article focuses on the category that expresses weaker subjective will in the category of will, and names it "weak will".By combing the corpus,it is found that in modern Chinese,in addition to adverbs such as "zhihao, zhide" can express the speaker's weak subjective will and will, there are also discourse components such as "bale, suanle, yeba",etc Modal semantic functions are integrated into the "weak will category" to carry out research. The specific research content is divided into seven chapters:The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly includes the research status of category theory, modality, and related grammatical phenomena at home and abroad, the definition of weak will and weak will categories, the definition of two expression forms of weak will categories, research methods, and the relevance of corpus selection in this article.problem.The second chapter starts with the corpus, statistics the two expression forms of the weak will category, and summarizes the semantic model and pragmatic characteristics of the weak will category from the corpus. The third chapter describes the distribution characteristics of the weak willl adverbs "zhihao","zhide","debude",and "zhiyou".It mainly analyzes the combination of weak willl adverbs and their distribution in complex sentences. The angle explains its distribution characteristics.Chapter four determines the criteria for the classification of weak willl sublexicographic members and atypical members from the prototype theory, and determines the specific typical members and atypical members. Then, the typical members "zhihao" and the atypical members "zhiyou" were selected for case study, which explained the reasons for the formation of the category features from the semantic point of view. The fifth chapter describes the distributive characteristics of the weak will discourse components:"bale","suanle","yeba","haole","xingle","dele","haoba",and"xingba".This paper mainly analyzes the disjunction of weak willl discourse components and its distribution in the discourse, and focuses on explaining its distribution characteristics from a pragmatic perspective. The sixth Chapter determines the criteria for dividing typical members and atypical members of weak will discourse components from the perspective of prototype theory, and determines the specific typical members and atypical members. Then, the typical members "bale" and the atypical members "haoba" are selected for case studies, which mainly explain the reasons for the formation of the category features from the pragmatic perspective. The seventh Chapter is the conclusion.Based on category theory, this paper establishes a new semantic categoryweak will categoryunder the will category of modern Chinese.Based on the corpus, the two language expressions in the category of weak will are described and analyzed in detail. This research has certain positive significance for the further research on the semantic category of modern Chinese syntax.
