The Image Of China In The Images Of Italian Director

The film,as a kind of sound and picture synchronization media,has been valued by all countries since its birth,and is an important means to construct and disseminate the national image.The West has a long history of using movies to create an imagined image of China.This article takes Italy as the object of investigation,from the legendary image of ancient high civilization to the image of modern feudal decadent autocratic empire to the image of modern poor and backward "to be saved",with the development of the times and the change of the concept,the image of China in the Italian director's image is also changing and shifting.In this study,we will take the examples of Chinese films created by Italian directors from-1970s to the present day.Although the number of such films is small,they are of high quality,and most of them are profound and full of philosophical meaning,among them,Bertolucci,Antonioni and other directors with world influence combine their passion and thinking into their works,their works,such as Antonioni's China and Bertolucci's The Last Emperor,record and adapt important historical periods,events and characters in China to a great extent,which have influenced western audiences'views of China,at the same time,it deeply influenced the contemporary film makers with the advanced shooting methods and narrative methods,and provided the reference of the value concept and the expression way for the creation of the Chinese theme.This paper will be based on the literature research,text analysis and other research methods,to study what kind of Chinese image the Italian director's image presents,the causes behind this image,the influence it brings to the world,and the differences in the audience's acceptance of the Chinese image in the film from different cultural backgrounds,from the perspective of orientalism,this paper analyzes the phenomenon and causes of cultural misreading in the image of China in the film,and finally focuses on the most famous directors,Antonioni and Bertolucci,as examples,analysis of their enlightenment to the Chinese film industry.
