Music And Cultural Exchanges Between Khitan-Liao And The Central Plains And Surrounding Ethnic Groups

Khitan,a branch of Xianbei,belongs to the Donghu ethnic group in ancient China.It is a nomadic people in the north that coexisted with the Central Plains and the Northern Song Dynasty in the Five Dynasties of China.In 907 A.D.,the Khitan ethnic group established a huge empire Liao Dynasty with today's Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia as its core.The northern minority regime was formed with Khitan ethnic group as the main body and Han ethnic group,Nuzhen ethnic group and western regions.In terms of music culture,Khitan,as an ethnic group with nomadic culture,has a positive attitude towards the advanced music culture of the Central Plains and surrounding ethnic groups and countries because of its enterprising ethnic psychology and open ethnic character.Cultural exchange is a big topic,while musical cultural exchange is a cultural phenomenon derived from different historical and political systems in different periods.Khitan gradually formed its own artistic tradition and style in the continuous communication and integration with the Central Plains and other ethnic minorities.It is another important historical stage in the history of ancient Chinese music,which is worth our thinking and summary.Starting from the research of Khitan Liao ethnic group's music culture,and then the in-depth study of its music culture communication with the Central Plains and surrounding ethnic groups will help us to more intuitively see the identity of Khitan,a northern ethnic minority group,to the advanced culture of Central Plains and surrounding ethnic groups and its own strong learning ability.This paper consists of three chaptersIn the first chapter,the Khitan ethnic group as an independent individual is analyzed from two aspects: the natural environment and life style of Khitan ethnic group to study the formation reason and music content of Khitan-liao music culture.Starting from the natural environment,Khitan ethnic group is located in the grassland area in the north of China.The natural environment of grassland nomads' internal deficiency leads to their open ethnic psychology and enterprising ethnic character.The music form of Khitan ethnic group is closely related to its production,labor and social life on the grassland.The nomadic life style determines the music content of Khitan ethnic group.This paper tries to analyze the basic features of Khitan-liao ethnic music culture from two aspects.The second chapter,with the Central Plains as the main body,discusses the musical and cultural exchanges between Khitan-liao and the Central Plains.Since the later Jin Dynasty ceded the Sixteen States of Yanyun to Khitan,Khitan-liao and the Central Plains began frequent exchanges.This paper analyzes the inheritance and development of Khitan-liao's palace music in the Central Plains from such historical events as "sending music" to Liao and "seizing music" by Khitan.In addition,since the Liao and Song Dynasties signed the "alliance of Chanyuan",the two sides stopped fighting.In a good political environment,it provides a good development space for economic and cultural exchanges.Khitan-liao tomb is a typical representative of Han Tombs in Liao area.As a witness,Khitan-liao tomb shows us the music life of Han people in Khitan-liao area.The third chapter discusses the music and cultural exchanges between Khitan and Liao and the surrounding ethnic minorities,and studies the music and cultural exchanges between Khitan and Liao,Bohai State and western regions from the East and the West.And from the perspective of Khitan-liao and the East-West music and cultural exchanges,Khitan-liao plays an important role in enriching the music culture of the Chinese nation.
