Vocabulary is the basis of language learning.It is conducive to promoting the development of students' language ability.However,under the influence of the test-oriented education environment,we only attach importance to learning results and ignore the learning process.This is also true in secondary vocational schools.Especially in vocabulary learning,due to lack of learning motivation,many students have difficulties in remembering words and they can't use them flexibly.So the effect of vocabulary acquisition is not good.This situation is closely related to the traditional English vocabulary teaching evaluation mechanism.The evaluation methods of English vocabulary teaching today are mostly summative evaluation.This model only emphasizes grades and ignores the learning process.With the progress of basic education reform,formative evaluation model gradually replaces traditional teaching evaluation methods.However,the author finds that there are few studies on the effectiveness of forming evaluation in vocabulary teaching.Therefore,the researchers adopted the formative assessment model to conduct vocabulary teaching experiments,aiming to solve the following three problems:(1)What influence does the formative evaluation have on students' English vocabulary test scores?(2)What influence does the formative evaluation have on students' motivation for learning English vocabulary?(3)What influence does the formative evaluation have on students' autonomous learning ability in English vocabulary?The study lasted for 16 weeks,with 97 students in two parallel classes of 2018 nursing major in a vocational technical secondary school taught by the author in Shandong Province.During the experiment,the experimental class adopts the formative evaluation model,and the control class conducts regular teaching.SPSS statistical software was then used for data analysis.Through the changes of students' vocabulary scores and questionnaire data before and after the experiment,the author discusses the influences of formative assessment on vocabulary teaching.After the experiment,the researchers conducted interviews with the two groups of students,using qualitative data to cross-validate the obtained quantitative data.The main conclusions are as follows:The formative evaluation model significantly improves the vocabulary performance of secondary vocational students;The formative evaluation model successfully stimulates the vocabulary learning motivation of secondary vocational students;The formative evaluation model greatly enhances students' autonomous learning ability.This study explores the effectiveness of the formative evaluation model on vocabulary teaching from three aspects.Hope it will be helpful to secondary vocational school English vocabulary teaching and instructive for further research in this field.
