"The Struggle For Recognition" - Honnett's Theory Of Recognition

Axel Honneth is the third-generation Frankfurt School since the Frankfurt Institute was founded,and as the leading third-generation figure,he came up with the theory of recognition.The theory of recognition has caused a great stir in the academic circles.The emergence of Honneth;theory of recognition has given a new direction to the Frankfurt School,and this theory of recognition has provided new ideas for the study of social recognition theory.In Jena time,Honneth dialectically selected Hegel views on the struggle for recognition;studied relevant recognition theories from Marxism theory of social practice;and through George Herbert Mead theory of social psychology,from Michel Foucault critical theory and Jurgen theory,Honneth makes clear his research ideas and chooses appropriate research tools to help him refine his theory of recognition.In the course of the formation and development of his theory of recognition,Honneth and other scholars in the academic field refuted the inconsistency of views.Because of the existence of these dialectics,honneth realized the limitations of the recognition theory,and combined with the actual situation,made constant supplement and improvement to the recognition theory.According to the historical development order,this paper analyzes the origin and development of Honneth recognition theory,taking the background and ideological origin of Honneth recognition theory as the starting point,the main contents of Honneth theory of recognition are explained in detail.The main contents of Honneth research on the theory of recognition are as follows: to reflect on the critical theory put forward earlier,and to point out clearly the relevant theoretical basis lacking in the critical theory after the reflection,using Hegel model of struggle for recognition,this paper expounds that the moral cause of the formation of social conflict is struggle,and combining George Herbert Mead social psychology,this paper constructs three forms of mutual recognition,namely,Love,Law and solidarity,and puts forward three forms of contempt,and expounds that the emotional cause of the formation of social conflict is contempt for experience.Generally speaking,through the above analysis,Honneth recognition theory not only has the corresponding theoretical research value,but also has the related political practice value.The study of Honneth recognition theory from the perspective of Marxism can not only absorb the essence of his theory,but also transfer it to the discussion of social reality.
