With the rapid development of modern information technology, the depth and breadth of information dissemination have been improved unprecedentedly. Many countries pay more and more attention to the national image in information dissemination. This thesis uses the reports which are from American four main news media which are The Buzz Feed,The Daily Beast,The Washington Examiner and The Fiscal Times about Russia since 2019 as corpus, takes the Stance Adjectives proposed by American scholar D.Biber as the search object, combines with the Framework Theory of Chinese scholar Zang Guoren, and uses corpus-related software to analyze. The following main findings are obtained: first,Evidential Stance Adjectives are used frequently in news reports.Second, different types of Stance Adjectives have different functions in news discourse.Third, there are eight main modes and seven secondary modes for American media to construct Russian national image by using Stance Adjectives.Fourth, different modes are used in American two parties' news reports to construct a variety of Russian national images, all of which are mainly negative images, which can be summarized as hateful, terrifying, suspicious and pathetic. These findings indicate that Stance Adjectives play an important role in constructing the image of the reported object, and news media can adopt different construction modes according to different communicative purposes. The findings of this thesis have certain reference value for identifying how American news media construct Chinese national image, and also have certain reference significance for the related research in Linguistics and Communication.
