As the effects of globalization continue to deepen, countries are paying more and more attention to their national image. Therefore, the stance adverbs used by various media to express their own positions when reporting a country's image have gradually become a hot topic in the linguistic community.Based on the classification of stance adverbs by D.Biber in 2006,this paper collects news reports on Russian image from six major American media since 2017 to build a text corpus.By using SPSS and Ant Conc, the frequency, syntactic and semantics features of stance adverbs will be analysed to show the differences in the use of stance adverbs in different media reports. The research results show that even in news discourse, the author will use the stance adverb more or less as an important means to express his position or attitude. There are also differences in the use of different types of stance adverbs in news media with different political positions. The study shows that there are differences in position, frequency, function of four-word word clusters, semanic prosody and context words in the use of stance adverbs in news media with different political positions.
