An Ecological Discourse Analysis Of "Princess Mononoke"

In modern society,with the rapid development of science and technology,human’s demand for resources is becoming stronger.While pursuing the rapid development of economic and social economic benefits,the protection of the ecological environment has been neglected.For that reason,the contradiction between human beings and ecology is constantly highlighted.Facing the current needs of social sustainable development and ecological civilization construction,how to devote to conservation of ecosystem has become the focus of increasing number of scholars.In the field of linguistics,the study of ecological discourse has become a new direction.Ecological Discourse Analysis is to reveal the ecological means discourse through the language analysis,in order to prevent the ecological damage of human action.This paper follows the transitivity system theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics and visual theory to analyze the multimodal discourse of Miyazaki’s Princess ghost from the perspectives of dialogue and image,The first chapter discusses the development of eco linguistics and multimodal discourse analysis,from the emergence to the present research status.The second chapter makes an Ecological Discourse Analysis of the dialogue from the material process,relational process and psychological process under the transitivity system theory.The third chapter uses the representation meaning,interactive meaning and composition meaning of visual theory to make multimodal discourse analysis on the image part of the film.At present,most of the researches on Ecological Discourse Analysis focus on European and American literary novels,few focus on film dialogues.And,the research on Hayao Miyazaki’s ecological thoughts mainly focuses on the common ecological images in his works,while neglecting the research from the perspective of linguistic theory.Therefore,this paper analyzes the film from the perspective of linguistics,combining words and images,hoping to provide new ideas for the future study of Japanese Ecological Discourse Analysis.
