Research On The Composition And Performance Of The Piano Solo "Nuwa" With Two Chaozhou Gongs

Professor Cao Guangping is one of the famous composers of Guangzhou new trend music school in the 1960 s.His works combine modern western composing techniques with Chinese folk music elements,and are highly innovative,personalized and national poetic.Among them,the piano solo "Nuwa" with two Chaozhou gongs is the first preset piano work in China.It was selected to participate in the modern music festival held by ISCM in 1988.This paper makes an analysis and research about Nuwa,which is devided into four chapters including ten sections.The first part mainly analyzes the composer Professor Cao Guangping’s education and work experience and its creation background.The second part makes a detailed analysis and research from the perspective of the creation of the works,combining with the title,structure and theme development.And it excavate the source of the title,twelve tone sequence and modern creative techniques of occasional music.The third part analyzes from the perspective of works performance,combining with the preset piano,"band playing" instruments and items,music nationalization characteristics.We can find new timbre in Nuwa and extract the special notation and special performance method.The fourth part,through the analysis of the creation and performance of Nuwa,discusses the potential significance and value of fairy tale theme piano works,modern creative techniques,new timbre and nationalization to China’s piano creation and performance.Through the detailed analysis and research of these parts,we can have a preliminary understanding of the creation and performance form of this type of piano solo works,and it also provides some theoretical reference for the performer of this work.Finally,we hope to provide theoretical help for the scholars who study traditional,non-traditional and new timbres in the creation and performance.
