Lead-in,one of the parts of classroom teaching,is essential and necessary to review the previous materials and introduce the new teaching content.During the process of designing lead-in in middle school writing classes,novelty,interest,effectiveness and simplicity should be paid attention to.A natural,original and interesting lead-in can best catch the attention of students,prompt them to devote themselves into the atmosphere of learning,provoke their active thinking,improve their enthusiasm of participating in language communication,and reduce the difficulty of English knowledge point.It also can contribute to connecting the old knowledge with the new orderly,optimizing the learning effect of writing,and this improving the effect of writing classroom teaching.The theoretical framework for this study draws from the theories of C.Turney's lead-in theory,Krashen's Five Hypothesis and D.P.Ausubel's First Organizer Strategy.The thesis focus is on Go for it(People's Education Press Edition).The thesis first points out the necessity of research on lead-in in middle school English writing teaching.Then,a total of 12 first-line English teachers from 9 different middle schools in Kunming and the suburbs,200 students were randomly selected from the students they taught,and 36 English classes of the seventh,eighth,ninth grade were investigated.By using the method of classroom observation,questionnaire survey and interviews in this paper,then analyzes the current teaching situation of English classroom lead-in in junior high school and finds out the problems and reasons in lead-in in English writing classroom teaching in junior high school.Based on the literature review,this research focuses on the three issues:(1)What are the main methods adopted and the major content for lead-in in English writing class?(2)What are the main factors influencing teacher's design pf lead-in?(3)What are the existing problems with lead-in and what are the strategies to solve these problems? According to the research results,multimedia is the main technological device adopted for lead-in on classroom writing teaching.The major content of lead-in in English writing class covers writing tasks,vocabulary and sentence patterns and writing requirements related to writing topics and tasks.An analysis indicates that the factors influencing teacher's design of lead-in in writing class are the student's cognitive level,interests,needs and learning styles,as well as the teaching content and goals etc.As for the major problems with lead-in,some teachers' lead-in methods are fixed and are in lack of diversity.Besides,teacher's ability for controlling the time allocation for lead-in is insufficient and some teachers lack knowledge on relevant theoretical knowledge and practical methods for operation.Some classes even have no lead-in part.After the research,the author got some implications.First,teachers should strengthen their knowledge of the theory and method related to lead-in.Then,teachers ought to reasonably arrange the time for lead-in for students to effectively accomplish the writing task.Thirdly,lead-in should be student-centered,which helps stimulate student's writing interest and activate their existing knowledge sachems,to construct new knowledge.Furthermore,the novelty of lead-in should be improved.
