Chen Baisha's theory of the “mastery of stillness” which initiated the turn of mindfulness in the Ming dynasty, has an important position and research value in the history of Chinese philosophy. In this paper,we start from Chen Baisha's theory of the "mastery of stillness" and elaborate on its connection with Confucianism,Buddhism and Buddhism, revealing that Chen Baisha's theory of "mastery of stillness" takes Confucianism as its basic position, while at the same time adopting the reasonable elements of Buddhism and Taoism on "stillness",forming a unique theoretical system."It is a unique theoretical system.Chen Baisha's " mastery of stillness " advocates " cultivating the sprout in sitting meditation ",which refers to cultivating emptiness and establishing sincerity, where " emptiness is different from the Buddha's emptiness, but is combined with "reality";Baisha's theory of the“mastery of stillness” emphasizes intuitive recognition, which is not the Buddha's epiphany. It requires "seeing the book through myself ".Baisha's “mastery of stillness”emphasizes intuitive realization, but not the Buddhist concept of sudden enlightenment. At the same time,Baisha's theory advocates the realization of heavenly principles in the context of human affairs and daily use, focusing on individual practice. It is not a Buddhist "sitting in silence",but rather a non-obsession with stillness, thus demonstrating that Baisha's "mastery of stillness" is a system of thought that combines reality with emptiness, movement with stillness, and knowledge with action. On the basis of clarifying the connotation of Baisha's "mastery of stillness",we explore Chen Baisha's approach of "sitting in silence" to reveal his true heart through "emptying the mind " and "striving for the truth".The aim is to achieve the goal of self-recognition by "emptying the mind and making it sincere" and "establing the original mind"."Self-mastery" is the goal of meditation, which is mainly directed towards inner seeking, not depending on external objects, and on grasping the way of the universe.Self-sufficiency of manifests as self-awareness and self-confidence,and ultimately opens up the realm of "natural true happiness" where heaven and man are united.
